Software you own, not software you rent.
Floform designs, builds and operates the systems small and mid-sized businesses run on — and puts them on infrastructure those businesses control.
Not to be confused with. Floform (floform.ai) is a Toronto automation, software and AI company for owner-run businesses. It is not FloForm Countertops, the North American countertop manufacturer at floform.com, and not FlowForma, the Irish workflow software. We are unrelated to both.
The default moved, and it moved too far.
Software used to be something a business bought. It sat on a machine you owned, it kept working whether or not you paid again this month, and the terms did not change because someone in another country revised a pricing page.
That model quietly inverted. Almost everything a company runs on now is rented per person per month from a handful of very large platforms. For an enterprise that is a procurement line. For a fifteen-person business it is something else: an accumulating dependency where the customer list, the operating history and the ability to keep trading all sit in accounts somebody else administers, under terms that can change with a fortnight's notice.
Most owners never chose that. It arrived one signup at a time, and by the time the bill is meaningful the data is somewhere awkward and leaving is expensive by design.
We think a business should own the systems it depends on. Not as a philosophical position — as a practical one. Own it and the cost stops scaling with your headcount, the data stays somewhere you can reach it, nobody can switch you off in a billing dispute, and if we disappeared tomorrow the thing keeps running.
What it means in practice
Built on open foundations
Nextcloud, n8n, Postgres, Next.js. Widely-used open-source software with no licence fee and no vendor who can revoke your access — which is also why any competent developer can pick up what we build without us.
Infrastructure in your name
The server, the domain, the data and the keys belong to the client, not to us. That is a deliberate constraint on our own business: it means we have to keep earning the relationship rather than holding the exit hostage.
We operate what we sell
This company runs on the same platform we build for clients — the CRM, the pipeline, the booking, the portals, the internal handbook. We are the first ones to notice when something is wrong with it.
Scoped honestly
We say what we do not do, we put a number in writing only once we understand the problem, and when the sensible answer is that a business should carry on renting for now, we say that instead of selling them something.
Toronto, working across North America.
We work with owner-operated businesses, from one person up — trades and home services, clinics and practices, professional services, member organisations, studios, light manufacturing. Most of what we do is operational rather than marketing: the work moves through the business badly, and we rebuild the parts that carry it.
Automation work from before Floform focused on owned systems. It is here because it is real, and because it is where several of the reusable parts came from.
